Distribution maps and Red List of freshwater species of New Zealand

With this initiative BioFresh has organised a workshop, collated and mobilised the large body of existing information on native New Zealand freshwater biodiversity, including all described species of freshwater fishes, freshwater molluscs, dragonflies and damselflies and aquatic plants, totalling approximately 250 native species. All species have been mapped to HydroBASINS and their conservation status has been assessed according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria. This is the first comprehensive dataset of the distributions and conservation status for all New Zealand aquatic species in the taxonomic groups listed above, and provides key information for the state of freshwater biodiversity in the southern hemisphere.
