Geo-referenced site scale data of tropical Dragonflies

Tropical America, Australia and Asia
With this initiative BioFresh has built a distribution database of dragonflies of tropical America, Asia and Australia based on published records. Approximately 7,000 references contain records of dragonflies of this region of which approximately 5,000 are in English or Spanish. NCB Naturalis identified these references and made PDF’s available to WorldFish. The references have been digitised by WorldFish.

Africa
With this initiative BioFresh aims to compile about 100,000 geo-referenced distribution data of Odonata for the whole of continental Africa. The database, compiled largely through private initiative, was further developed for completion of an assessment of the global Red List status of all African species. The database is the first continent-wide, high-resolution, taxonomically-verified dataset for any group of tropical freshwater insects, containing large amounts of unpublished data (70% of total) not available otherwise. A few remaining gaps must be filled and the whole prepared for submission to BioFresh, which is still largely lacking information on African dragonflies, making locality records publically available.
